As so many CBD products are available to buy online or on the shelves today, it can often be confusing to understand what you’re getting. Many people turn to CBD products after hearing the benefits others receive on their wellness journey or for their health condition.

While it is true CBD has a number of positive effects on people from many ages and backgrounds, there is something worrying happening in the background.

Many CBD products are mis-labelled.

Understanding the situation

In 2019, a research study was carried out to find out if certain CBD products contained the level of cannabidiol, as stated on the label. Just 38% of the products tested came back within 10% of their claimed CBD content. Worryingly, more than 50% of the products tested had more than the legal amount of a controlled cannabinoid.

When the legislation was changed surrounding the use of cannabis for medical reasons back in 2017, many companies began creating CBD products.

Understanding many people would be unable to receive an NHS prescription, due to not falling under certain circumstances, and being unable to afford a private prescription; CBD would be the next best thing.

CBD oils created with no more than the legal 0.2% THC levels still provide relief to anxiety, stress, depression and chronic pain to name but a few conditions. As the interest in these products grew, so did the price tag.

Companies began to spend thousands of pounds on marketing, so they could look the part, but they were not focusing the same energy on creating products which offered what was said.

Understanding the labelling

Without the correct labelling, people cannot be expected to dose correctly. Currently, there is no standard for labelling CBD products – which results in many companies doing it wrong.

Take the concentration levels for example; some companies show a percentage of CBD, while others use milligrams per bottle or dose. This can make it difficult to make it know how much you’re taking – or to compare product to product.

CBD can be taken in many forms, which are all governed by different regulations. If you are prone to CBD in vape form, this falls under e-cigarette regulations. However, if you prefer CBD cosmetics, this comes under regulations surrounding cosmetics.

Many vulnerable people – or their families – are CBD customers, using products for their health conditions. Incorrect dosing of CBD could have negative side effects – or, they will feel no benefit at all.

What do you need to look out for?

As Sweet Pink CBD was founded to provide people with access to premium, hand-made, organic CBD products, we want to help people find the right CBD for them.

When choosing your next CBD product, there are a few things to look out for. These include:

  • A full list of ingredients on the packaging
  • Dosing instructions
  • The amount of CBD within the product
  • Laboratory or analytical reports

Doing so, can ensure you’re purchasing a CBD product which you can use correctly and receive the full benefits from.

We aim to provide people with access to the power of the plant, information about CBD and how to correctly use it.
